Génétique Quantitative et Méthodologie de la Sélection

Nos recherches sont caractérisées par des approches de génétique quantitative étroitement liées à la méthodologie de la sélection et à la gestion de la variabilité génétique. Elles visent en particulier à :

1. Comprendre l’organisation de la diversité du maïs

Nos recherches ont pour objectif de comprendre l’effet des sélections anciennes et modernes sur l’évolution et l’adaptation des variétés populations et des hybrides chez le maïs, en termes de variation phénotypique, d’organisation globale de la diversité moléculaire et de polymorphisme à l’échelle du génome.

2. Etudier le déterminisme des caractères quantitatifs.

Nous cherchons à identifier les bases génétiques de caractères complexes pour des applications directes en sélection assistée par marqueurs et/ou en sélection génomique, mais également pour mieux comprendre la nature des effets génétiques en cause ainsi que la relation génotype-phénotype par des approches de génétique des systèmes (intégration de données multi-omiques). Nous portons une attention particulière à la précocité de floraison, la productivité en biomasse sous contrainte environnementale (notamment abiotique), la stabilité des performances et la vigueur hybride chez le maïs en lien avec le changement climatique et l’évolution des pratiques agricoles (réduction des intrants, agroécologie, interactions plante-microrrhizes, etc.).

3. Optimiser les programmes de sélection

Nous cherchons à optimiser le processus de sélection, des ressources génétiques à la création de variétés avec notamment des approches visant à étudier le potentiel de la sélection génomique et phénomique pour une meilleure gestion de la variabilité génétique dans les programmes de sélection, l’identification et l’intégration de nouvelles sources de diversité dans le matériel élite (issues des ressources génétiques ou crée par les « New Breeding Technologies ») et l’optimisation de la sélection hybride.

Nos recherches reposent sur des travaux expérimentaux et théoriques, le développement d’approches statistiques et d’outils d’aide à la décision.

Les travaux expérimentaux impliquent l’assemblage de panels de diversité et la création de matériel original chez le maïs, leur marquage moléculaire ciblé ou à l’échelle du génome à différentes densités de génotypage, intégrant notamment des approches de séquençage, et des évaluations phénotypiques. Ces expériences sont réalisées par les membres de l’équipe avec un appui solide des structures expérimentales INRAE et des partenaires publics ou privés impliqués dans les projets de recherche. Nos travaux théoriques portent notamment sur le développement de méthodes et l’optimisation de dispositifs expérimentaux pour la détection de QTL (par analyse de liaison, génétique d’association ou méta-analyse), la sélection assistée par marqueurs (notamment la sélection génomique) et la génétique des systèmes (intégration multi-omiques). Ces travaux ayant pour vocation d’être applicables au-delà du maïs, nous collaborons également à des projets sur différentes espèces (lin, concombre, blé, tomate, légumineuses, etc.). Nous contribuons notamment en collaboration avec l’atelier ABI au développement de logiciels (Biomercator, OptiMAS), de base de données (ThaliaDB) et de packages R (MM4LMM, Relatedness, metaGE).

Au-delà de nos projets de recherches, nous assurons pour les chercheurs et techniciens de INRAE travaillant sur le maïs, l’animation et la circulation des connaissances et des ressources génétiques (animation du groupe « maïs » de INRAE et coordination du CRB maïs).

Enseignement :

Nos interventions se concentrent sur nos disciplines d’intérêt et d’expertise à savoir la génétique des populations, la génétique quantitative, l’amélioration des plantes, les méthodes de sélection moderne (de la détection de QTL à la sélection génomique ou phénomique), la modélisation statistique, l’adaptation des plantes aux stress abiotiques ou la génomique.

Notre principale implication dans l’enseignement concerne différentes formations du cursus ingénieur AgroParisTech en assurant notamment la co-responsabilité de la Dominante d’approfondissement PISTv (Production et Innovation dans les Systèmes Techniques végétaux avec son option Amélioration des Plantes) mais également le master BIP (Biologie Intégrative et Physiologie – M1 & M2pro) de l’Université Paris-Saclay. Les chercheurs de l’équipe interviennent également de façon plus ponctuelle dans d’autres établissements tels qu’à l’Institut Agro Rennes-Angers, l’Institut Agro Montpellier, l’ENS, l’Université Clermont-Auvergne, l’Université de Picardie Jules Verne ou encore l’Université de Reims-Champagne Ardennes.

Nous mettons également notre expertise au service de la formation continue de nos collègues via l’organisation (i) de modules de formation continue pour l’école doctorale ABIES sur la recherche reproductible et la modélisation statistique, (ii) de workshop dans le cadre de projets de recherche ou de méta-programme INRAE (iii) d’organisme de formation comme l’ASFIS et (iii) de formations à façon chez les entreprises semencières avec lesquelles nous collaborons.
