Thèmes de recherche

L’amélioration des plantes doit actuellement faire face à de nouveaux challenges en lien avec le changement climatique et la nécessité de réduire les impacts environnementaux de l’agriculture. La plupart des caractères d’intérêt ont un déterminisme génétique complexe largement inconnu. Le développement du génotypage puis des approches de séquençage ainsi que la disponibilité de données « omiques » offrent de nouveaux outils pour mieux comprendre les bases génétiques dans caractères et proposer de nouvelles méthodes de sélection. Mes projets de recherche sont liés au développement de méthodes et de dispositifs expérimentaux de détection de QTL (Quantitative Trait Loci) et de sélection assistée par marqueurs avec un intérêt particulier pour les dispositifs multiparentaux et les dispositifs hybrides avec des applications sur le maïs. Avec le développement de génotypage dense, mes recherches actuelles s’orientent plus spécifiquement sur:

  • La génétique d’association et sa combinaison avec la détection de QTL par analyse de liaison. Je m’interesse notamment à mieux comprendre les paramètres qui détermine la puissance de détection (1) et au développement de méthodes adaptées pour mieux comprendre les différences d’effets des QTL dans les différents groupes génétiques (2).

  • La selection génomique. Mes projets récents portent sur l’optimisation du jeu de calibration pour améliorer la précision de prédiction des modèles (3, 4, 5), l’impact de la structuration ne groupe sur l’efficacité des prédictions (6, 7). J’étudie également le potentiel de la sélection génomique pour identifier des sources de d’allèles d’intérêt dans les ressources génétique et mieux gérer la variabilité génétique dans les programmes de sélection (8, 9, 10, 11, 12).

  • La selection hybride. J’ai récemment contribué à développer un dispositive multiparental original afin d’identifier les locus impliqués dans l’AGC et l’ASC de la valeur hybride pour des performances en ensilage et évalué la possibilité de remplacer, dans les programmes de sélection, les évaluations sur testeur par des prédictions génomiques calibrées dans un dispositive factoriel incomplet et revisiter ainsi le concept de sélection récurrente réciproque (13, 14, 15, 16). De façon plus Générale j’essaie de mieux comprendre l’impact de la structuration en groupes hétérotiques sur les performances hybrides afin de mieux comprendre et prédire l’effet d’hétérosis.

L’essentiel de mes programmes de recherche sont conduits en collaboration avec des partenaires privés impliqués dans la sélection du maïs mais au-delà de cette espèce , mes objectifs sont de développer des méthodes et outils utilisables sur d’autres espèces tels que « OptiMAS », un outil d’aide à la décision permettant de faciliter l’implémentation de la sélection assistée par marqueurs. Au delà du Maïs, je contribute ainsi à différents projets sur d’autres espèces (Tomate, Concombre, Lin, Légumineuses…).

Enseignement

  • Je donne régulièrement des cours sur la détection de QTL, la sélection assistée par marqueurs et la sélection génomique dans différents masters (AgroCampus Ouest, AgroParisTech, SupAgro). Je contribue également au Master 2 d’Amélioration des plantes du CIHAM (Saragosse).
  • Je contribue également à des formations continues à destination de scientifiques d’instituts publics ou privés organisées par l’ASFIS, dans le cadre de différents projets (Amaizing, Selgen) ou organisées en interne par des sociétés semencières sur la détection de QTL, la génétique d’association, la SAM et la sélection génomique.
