Intrigued by the superpowers of beans, an Arte team followed INCREASE scientists to Germany, Italy and France.
To document the diversity and adaptation of bean varieties, the INCREASE team launched a large-scale citizen science experiment in 2021, bringing together thousands of amateur gardeners from 27 European countries to cultivate and analyze over a thousand old varieties. The film shows how, through this experiment, elementary school children are rediscovering this diversity. It also shows the importance of these beans in our culinary heritage, as illustrated by Tiziana Tacchi in her restaurant in Chiusi, Italy, where she prepares dishes based on regional varieties.
