Its owner, Elon Musk, has made an increasing number of controversial statements. He is a member of Donald Trump’s presidential team, which in 2017 pulled the United States out of the Paris Climate Agreement and has since reiterated its opposition to the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The scientific work of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) on the global biodiversity crisis is equally scorned.
