During the strike on September 18, at the call of the collective Rogues-ESR, a small group of staff from the Institute for Diversity, Ecology, and Evolution of Life took the time to express, as scientists, the reasons for our support for this strike day and drafted this appeal, which was shared within our communities. Aware of climate change and the collapse of biodiversity, we are relaying the recommendations of international scientific bodies such as the IPCC and the IPBES, and translate them into priorities that should guide the French government’s budgetary policy: (1) take into account the environmental cost of future investments, (2) link social justice and environmental justice, (3) put the issue of food and agriculture at the forefront.
Given the challenges we face, it is difficult for us as scientists not to intervene in the public debate. This text has been shared within the community evolfrance. Thank you to everyone for sharing it in turn.
